Electrical Protection Engineer
The ideal candidate for this engineering job will be responsible for implementing electrical components into devices. As a control engineer, they will also assist in the design and manufacture of electrical products of various shapes and sizes, and be capable of performing quality assurance checks to maintain high product standards.
Core Skill Requirements
- Previous experience in electrical protection system design and engineering is essential for success in this role.
- Functional knowledge of power transmission substation secondary design is highly desirable.
- Technical report writing skills are required.
- Proficiency with electrical design software (PowerFactory, CDEGS, CYMCAP) is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with substation test tools (CMC356, CPC100, CT Analyser) is also highly preferable.
- Prior experience configuring and commissioning protection relays from ABB/Hitachi (Relion series), Siemens (DIGSI 5), SEL, and GE.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate electrical products and systems by designing testing methods.
- Test finished products and assess system capabilities.
- Maintain operational readiness of necessary equipment.
- Contribute to team efforts by achieving related results.
- Undertake design calculations and documentation — earthing design, LV systems, DC systems, lightning design, cable design, insulation coordination and related electrical engineering tasks.
- Provide inputs and documentation for preliminary/concept designs and bill of quantities.
- Perform functional testing of substations, switchgear and related apparatus.
- Engage in detail design and configuration of protection relays.
- Conduct bench testing and FAT activities.
Qualifications
- Full and unrestricted working rights in Australia.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong problem-solving, technical, math and science skills are crucial.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are important.
